Cell phone thefts in Hoboken: Police warn of increase in incidents in crowded bars and restaurants

HOBOKEN, N.J. (WABC) – Police in Hoboken are warning residents about a rise in cellphone thefts, which they refer to as “apple picking.”

There have already been more than two dozen incidents this year.

Thieves patrol crowded bars and restaurants and strike when they get the opportunity.

Police are reminding people not to leave their phones unattended and to carry them in their front pocket (not their back pocket), and not to carry cash, credit cards or drivers licenses in their phone cases.
