Driver arrested during accident investigation | Local news

On June 8th at approximately 2:08 a.m., Master Officer N. Powell of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department was called to a motor vehicle accident in a public transportation area in the area of ​​East 10th Street and Raleigh Street.

According to a press release from Police Chief C. Shane Guyant, while gathering information for the accident report, she noticed that the driver of one of the vehicles involved, 24-year-old Christian Taylor Jones, was exhibiting signs of impairment. When Master Officer Powell noticed these signs, she investigated the incident further.

Jones consented to take a standardized field sobriety test. In addition, Jones consented to a breath sample taken using an alcohol screening test device. After the test failed and a positive ASTD sample showed alcohol, it was determined that Jones was indeed impaired.

Jones was arrested and taken to the police station where he was asked to provide a breath sample using an intoxication device. Jones provided a positive sample of 0.11 BrAC, which was above the acceptable limit.

Jones was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and released to a responsible person. She was given a court date of July 26.
