A person was arrested this week on suspicion of damaging several businesses and vehicles in Long Beach’s East Village in a series of nighttime attacks, authorities said.

Officers responded to the area early Friday morning after receiving “multiple reports of vandalism involving broken windows,” police said. “Officers and detectives worked quickly to locate and identify the suspect,” who was arrested Friday afternoon.

Further information about the suspect and his identification has not been released by police. It is also not known whether the suspect used any objects or weapons to cause the damage.

Representatives for RightMealz, a health-conscious meal preparation service that also serves juice and coffee in the 400 block of East Fourth Street, confirmed on Facebook that it was one of the businesses damaged early Friday morning.

“Running a business certainly comes with its challenges and unpredictability,” RightMealz posted on Facebook. “Every day brings its own hurdles to overcome. Starting this business was a leap of faith and today proved to be one of those difficult days. When we woke up and found our business among the many vandals in the downtown Long Beach arts district, it was just disheartening.”

Photos posted by the business appeared to show the glass portion of the front door broken, and a second photo showed the door boarded up. The post also included surveillance photos of a person who appeared to be riding a bicycle and wearing a hoodie, pants and face mask, as well as a backpack.

It is not known how many other shops and vehicles were damaged and how extensive the damage was.
