The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol receives premiere date and first photos

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, the sequel officially focusing on one of The Walking Dead’s most popular duos, is coming out this September.

AMC announced today that The Book of Carol will premiere on its cable network and AMC+ on Sunday, September 29. That’s unfortunately a bit later than the summer 2024 release date hinted at in March, but at least we now have an official date.

AMC also revealed a few new images from the upcoming six-episode new season, which mostly features Daryl and Carol looking, well, badass. According to AMC’s official synopsis, The Book of Carol will pick up where The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon left off last October and follows Norman Reedus’ Daryl and Melissa McBride’s Carol.

“They both have to face old demons as she struggles to find her boyfriend and he struggles with his decision to stay in France, leading to tensions in the nest,” the synopsis reads. “In addition, Genet’s (Anne Charrier) movement gains momentum, putting Pouvoir on a violent collision course with the Union of Hope in the fight for the future of France.”

In addition to Reedus, McBride and Charrier, “The Book of Carol” also stars Clémence Poésy, Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, Laika Blanc Francard, Romain Levi and Eriq Ebouaney.

We first learned that season 2 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon would be a Carol/Daryl affair at last year’s New York Comic-Con, where the title The Book of Carol was also revealed. This fulfills what was expected from the spinoff, which was originally announced as a co-starring production between McBride and Reedus.

However, those plans fell through in April 2022 when it was announced that McBride would not be able to appear in season 1. The reason for this, Universal said at the time, was the actress’s inability to move to Europe for filming. However, towards the end of the first season, she made a brief cameo appearance in which she was seen only as a voice.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol is just one of several spinoffs the franchise currently has underway. The Walking Dead: Dead City, a series centered around Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan), was renewed for a second season shortly after its debut last summer, while Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne’s (Danai Gurira) spinoff The Ones Who Live came to an end in March.

IGN gave the first season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon a 7/10, with Matt Fowler calling it “an entertaining rehabilitation of the character Daryl, taking him on a hero’s journey through France that allows him to open up, enjoy life, be a badass, and really change his Zompocalypse attitude.”
