Fulton Police make arrest in child abuse investigation

SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) — On May 29, Fulton Police launched a child abuse investigation at Fulton Junior High School.

It was reported that a school employee working as a registered nurse in a special education classroom punched a 12-year-old disabled student in the face.

Police confirmed that the staff member had hit the child and that she was assigned to another 14-year-old disabled student in the room who required her constant supervision.

When school administrators learned of the incident, they began to investigate the employee themselves, which led to further concerns regarding the same employee.

According to witnesses, this staff member repeatedly placed a cloth over the child’s head, completely covering his eyes, nose and mouth, while the student suffered from coughing fits and vomiting.

On June 5, the employee turned herself in to the Fulton Police Department and is currently awaiting arraignment in Fulton Municipal Court.

Anyone with additional information regarding this case is asked to contact Sgt. Lucas Hollenbeck at (315) 592-3426.
