Woman arrested for allegedly assaulting her husband during class reunion plans

A local woman was arrested Friday after allegedly attacking and injuring her 69-year-old husband because he was trying to attend a high school reunion.

Caroline Faye Herren, 65, of Oakwood Avenue, was arrested at her residence around 1:30 p.m. and charged with second-degree domestic violence, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Herren, who has no prior criminal record, was initially held on $5,000 bail but appeared in Garland County District Court on Monday, where her bail was increased to $2,500 and a court order was issued barring her from having contact with her husband. As of Tuesday, Herren remained in custody.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Hot Springs Police Officer Nathan Thomas responded to the home shortly after 1 p.m. for a disturbance and made contact with the victim, who stated he had been involved in an argument with his wife, identified as Herren, at approximately 11:45 a.m.

He stated that he and Herren had been arguing about him wanting to go to his high school reunion and she allegedly said he would “be in jail” before he could go. He told her he was going to the reunion without her and she allegedly turned around and punched him in the face.

The man told Thomas that his wife had punched and slapped him in the face about 15 times while he tried to block the blows with his forearms. Thomas noted that the man had “a long cut” with dried blood on his neck.

When asked about the injury, the man stated that he believed it was caused by his wife’s fingernails or one of her rings. He said that when she stopped hitting him, he pushed her away from him and she fell to the ground.

Officers contacted Herren at the home, took him into custody and advised him of the possibility of aggravated assault due to the victim’s age at the time of the incident.
