Police investigate accident involving cyclist

According to police, the girl was crossing an intersection in West Lampeter Township on Thursday evening when she collided with a Nissan Rogue.

LANCASTER, Pennsylvania – Police in Lancaster County are investigating a crash that injured a teenage bicyclist in West Lampeter Township Thursday evening.

According to West Lampeter Township police, the incident occurred at 6:40 p.m. at the intersection of Wiker Avenue and Frances Avenue.

According to police, the cyclist, an underage girl, suffered a serious head injury in the accident.

The initial investigation revealed that she was crossing the intersection on her bicycle when she collided with a silver Nissan Rogue SUV traveling east on Wiker Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old woman from Lancaster, and a four-year-old passenger were not injured, police said.

According to police, the intersection is controlled by stop signs for northbound and southbound traffic on Francis Avenue. The speed limit on Wiker Avenue is 25 miles per hour.

The cyclist was not wearing a helmet, police said. She was taken to Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital and then transferred to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for further treatment.
