Company officials said the worker was an employee of a delivery service partner that has a contract with Amazon.

“We are deeply troubled by this horrific incident and are offering support to our team and partners at our Richmond-area delivery facility,” Amazon officials said. “The investigation is ongoing and we are working with Chesterfield County Police, so we will defer further comment to them at this time.”

Amazon officials said other workers were sent home and Saturday night shifts were canceled at the factory. Employees will receive their pay, company officials said.
