Man arrested after threatening to shoot chickens and exposing himself to a child

MARSHALL COUNTY, Alabama (WHNT) – A man was arrested after brandishing a firearm in Marshall County on Sunday.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), officers responded to a home on Cypress Road in Union Grove, where they arrested an elderly man with a gun who appeared to be “highly intoxicated.”

After meeting with the property owner, officers determined that 65-year-old Billy Stewart had threatened to shoot some chickens belonging to another family member. According to MCSO, Stewart also exposed himself to an 11-year-old child.

Stewart was found by officers sitting in an open doorway holding a shotgun. When officers ordered him to put his hands off the gun, Stewart complied.

As officers approached Stewart, he told them, “You better back off,” and reached for his gun again. However, officers managed to take the gun from Stewart. According to MCSO, Stewart then went into the house and attempted to close the door to avoid arrest.

After a brief struggle with Stewart, he was arrested and charged with:

  • Public indecency
  • Resisting arrest
  • Trying to escape
  • Threatening

Stewart is being held on $9,000 bail.
