The names of four people have been released who died in Greenfield on May 21 when an EF-4 tornado swept through the city.

Dean and Pamela Wiggins, 78 and 77, were killed in their home in the 800 block of E. Iowa Street in Greenfield, according to the Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Agency.

Also killed were Michael Jensen, 73, who died at his home on SE Jackson Street in Greenfield, and William Williamson, 70, who was injured at his home in the 200 block of S. Fifth Street in Greenfield but later died at Greater Regional Health Hospital.

Monica Irma Zamarron, 49, of Shenandoah, whose name was released by local authorities last week, was also killed in the same tornado about 25 miles from Greenfield. Zamarron died on Highway 148 near Corning in Adams County after she was thrown from her vehicle during the storm.

According to the National Weather Service, eight tornadoes hit Iowa that day. The strongest tornado reached wind gusts of up to 300 km/h, left a 71 km path from Page to Adair County and left severe damage in Greenfield.

The tornado not only claimed five lives but also injured at least 35 other people.

“Cleanup efforts are currently underway in the affected areas. We continue to think of and pray for all the victims of this tornado as they work to rebuild their communities,” the emergency management agency said in a press release.
