When strong storms could hit Columbus, Central Ohio May 26, 2024

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR CENTRAL OHIO UNTIL 8 PM

A long line of severe storms is moving into central Ohio from the southwest, bringing the threat of damaging winds, hail and heavy rain.

Clouds will thicken ahead of a warm front, and a complex of rain and thunderstorms will move into the region from the east-northeast in the late afternoon ahead of a warm front. There is a chance of heavy rain and gusty winds through the early evening. Temperatures will reach just above 27 degrees, then fall back to just above 21 degrees, with widespread rain.

A second wave of severe storms will develop southwest of Ohio, with a low pressure system moving from the central Plains to the western Great Lakes overnight.

The greatest threat for severe weather is in southern Indiana, southwestern Ohio and northern Kentucky. However, any cluster of storms moving across central Ohio ahead of a cold front will bring heavy rain and some wind.

Rain will ease early Monday, with only a few showers remaining. Winds will increase from the west, reaching gusts of 20-30 mph. Temperatures will remain in the upper 70s on Memorial Day, with persistent clouds and a few showers. A few stretches of sunny afternoon and drier weather will provide opportunities for outdoor activities throughout the day.

The week will be noticeably cooler as low pressure systems remain aloft and there will be isolated showers on Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will be just above 20 degrees. The sun returns later in the week.
