Person dead after shootout with Wilson police

WILSON, NC — According to the Wilson Police Department, one person is dead after an exchange of gunfire with police officers.

Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Hood Street around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in response to a report of a shooting.

Police said that upon arrival, officers encountered a suspect who posed a threat. Officers exchanged gunfire with the individual, who is now dead.

No one else was injured.

According to agency protocol, the NC State Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.
