Imprisoned Scottish sex monster dubbed ‘The Shining Rapist’ insists he wants to be a woman in sex swap

A caged, vicious sex animal nicknamed “The Shining Rapist” has insisted he wants to change gender.

Paedophile David Smith, 37, said he was determined to undergo surgery to become a woman, wear artificial breasts and a wig – and be called Attila Taylor.

But prison officials say there is no possibility he will ever be transferred to a women’s prison.

A Scottish Prison Service spokesman said: “No transgender woman with a history of violence against women and girls who poses a risk to women will be admitted to the women’s section.”

Smith, from Maryhill in Glasgow, is serving a life sentence in the city’s strict Barlinnie Prison after being jailed for eight rapes, the attempted murder of his pregnant ex-girlfriend with garden shears and an indecent assault on a five-year-old.

But in a series of whining phone calls on Sunday, he told The Scottish Sun: “The prison’s gender identity and reassignment policy is clear about what they have to give me access to.

“This includes wigs, prosthetics and shaving equipment – and they try to refuse this at every possible opportunity.”

“I just want to have the opportunity to live in a woman’s body before I undergo the surgery.”

Smith blames 32-year-old transgender double rapist Isla Bryson – who is being held in a women’s prison while she awaits trial – for making life harder for other transgender inmates.

He added: “I fucking hate people who come out as trans and then don’t follow through with it.

“For me, that’s not a trans woman, that’s not a woman at all. That’s still a man.”

Smith claimed he first informed authorities of his desire to undergo gender reassignment surgery in December 2022.

Moment in which trans rapist Isla Bryson is sentenced to eight years in prison: “You pose a particularly great risk to every woman.”

He added: “I have NHS records showing when I came out as transgender. The prison refuses to change my gender on the computer and until they do I cannot apply for a gender recognition certificate. So I will never be classified as female, which is irrelevant to the operation.”

We told how Smith abused his then 29-year-old ex-girlfriend Ashleigh Stewart – who waived her right to anonymity – with a pair of hedge trimmers in 2018.

He chased them into the bathroom of his Glasgow flat before breaking through the door like Jack Nicholson’s deranged killer in the 1980 horror film The Shining.

Ashleigh managed to run past him and then threw herself out of a fourth-floor window.

In the fall, she suffered six broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a fractured skull and a broken sternum.

Smith was found guilty on 14 counts, including rape and attempted murder, as well as repeated rape of another woman.

Judge Lord Kinclaven locked him in a cage for at least five years in 2019 and warned that he may never be released.
