Woman arrested for giving drugs to minors in Sumter, South Carolina, officials say

A Sumter woman was arrested and charged with giving drugs to a minor, officials say. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office received reports that Melissa Burkett-Neville gave drugs to a minor. During the investigation, the minor called Burkett-Neville and asked to pick her up at a Sumter County business, witnesses testified. Burkett-Neville picked up the minor and took the victim to her home, where she gave the minor marijuana, officials said. On the afternoon of May 18, a Sumter County officer spotted a car with an illegal dark tint on the windows. The officer conducted a traffic stop to check the window tint and found no certificate of compliance. The officer found the driver was Burkett-Neville. After officers found out Burkett-Neville had an outstanding warrant for the January incident, she was arrested, officials say. Following a bail hearing, Burkett-Neville was given a $5,000 bond, which was posted on May 19.
