Man Violently Attacked Outside His Home in Queens: NYPD

SOUTH OZONE PARK, Queens (PIX11) – Husband and father Harbhajan Ghotra, 42, said the situation between him and several of his younger neighbors became increasingly dire after he became annoyed that they were allegedly making noise right outside his south home made and drank Ozone Park, Queens.

The very next afternoon – last Thursday – Ghotra said he walked out of his home to file a formal complaint with the 106th Precinct, only to be beaten on the sidewalk.

He told PIX11 News that his attackers were the same men from the night before.

Ghotra said they fled before police and emergency services arrived, but left him with bruises and a deep gash on his head. A wound so deep that it required stitches at Jamaica Hospital.

The NYPD confirmed the attack, but because the suspects fled the scene, responding officers were unable to make any arrests.

Ghotra said his attackers were familiar faces, adding that he now fears for his safety and that of his family.

“Yes, they live in the house over there. And two people over there in the basement,” Ghotra said.

That’s why PIX11 News spoke to the neighbors of these two apartment buildings.

“Other people – I don’t know anything about it. I don’t know why they beat him up. Maybe it’s his fault,” said Harry, opening the door a few houses away.

“We don’t know anything about it because we heard some noises. I think someone was drunk and screaming outside,” another neighbor across the street, Arwinder, told PIX11 News.

The Sikh community’s lawyer, Japneet Singh, said Ghotra and his family were now trapped and financially unable to escape what he said was an unstable, untenable situation with these neighbors.

“This is an affordable space for them right now. If they really can’t feel safe in the next few weeks, then maybe that’s the only option,” Singh said.

“They said we would kill you and your family if we didn’t do it now; Wherever we find you, we will do it next time. (I) am very worried at the moment. Every time I speak, he says I have a headache,” Ghotra added.

Ghotra said he was worried about the safety of his wife and two children.

An NYPD spokesperson said the department is absolutely still investigating this attack.
