BREAKING: Buffalo Bills Sign Veteran Safety

The Buffalo Bills are one of 32 NFL teams that have started their training camp. As a result, the Bills decided that they needed to upgrade their secondary before the start of the regular season. They did this by signing a veteran safety. Read below to find out who it is and what the details look like.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Buffalo Bills have signed veteran safety Kareem Jackson. Schefter revealed that the contract is expected to be a 1-year deal.

Jackson has had a long career in the NFL. He has played in the league for 14 seasons. About 9.5 years were with the Houston Texans and the other 4.5 seasons were with the Denver Broncos.

He has one of the best careers in the NFL as a member of each team’s secondary. So, what did Jackson do during those 14 years? For starters, he has had 22 interceptions and returned three of those for touchdowns. On top of this, Jackson has had seven forced fumbles and 954 combined tackles.

This is a nice addition to the Buffalo Bills’ secondary. It also means they are likely moving on from a veteran member of their secondary for good. That player is safety Micah Hyde.

Currently, Hyde is still a free agent. However, considering the Bills have just signed Kareem Jackson, it is looking more and more unlikely that they will re-sign Micah Hyde. He had two interceptions and 54 combined tackles last season.

There is a high standard to live up to when it comes to the Bills’ pass defense. Last season, Buffalo allowed the seventh-fewest passing yards per game (196.6). Now, they look to match that or allow even fewer passing yards per game this upcoming season.

While the Bills took care of a need at secondary, there is still a lot of pressure on them heading into the 2024 season. That is because, last season, they were once again eliminated in the playoffs by the Kansas City Chiefs.

It was a rare occasion where the Bills had a home-field advantage. However, they still could not get the job done and faced the real possibility of their Super Bowl window closing. Now we will have to see if the Buffalo Bills can get redemption in 2024.
