Suspected ‘rapist’ shot dead in clash with police

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — A suspected rapist was killed after he resisted arrest and attacked police officers in Barangay Alambijud, Argao City, around 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday morning, July 30, 2024.

The suspect was identified as Argel Sudario, 33 years old, a resident of the said location.

Before the incident, around 6am today, the 21-year-old victim, the younger sister of the suspect’s partner, sought police assistance, claiming that the suspect had harassed her. The victim was accompanied by her mother

The alleged rape incident occurred around 4am today.

For this reason, the Argao Police Station immediately launched a manhunt against the suspect.

When they reached the suspect’s house, they saw Sudario standing in front of the kitchen door.

According to Benjie Garcia, Senior Master Sergeant and Investigator of the Argao Police Station, when the police officers who responded to him told the suspect to surrender, he suddenly grabbed a bolo from the door side of his kitchen and aggressively attacked and beat the arresting police officers.

Police Sergeant Anthony Deiparine immediately stepped back to avoid the attack, but fell to the ground.

The suspect continued to attack the police officer and hit him on his left thumb.

For this reason, the arresting officers retaliated and shot the suspect with the firearms they had in their possession.

“That was sir, sir, that was what you neutralized from the police,” Garcia said.

Police rushed the suspect to the Isidro C. Kintanar Memorial Hospital (ICKMH) in Brgy. Bogo, Argao for medical treatment, but upon arrival, the attending physician declared him dead.

They also seized the 46-centimeter-long “bolo” with which the suspect struck the police officers who responded to the call.
