The storm has passed, but some roads in Walton County are damaged by fallen trees – Your Local News

Monday’s storm passed in less than an hour but left some damage. Walton County Fire Department Assistant Chief Craig League reports that crews repaired three downed trees on roads and a home on Waterford Lane that may have been struck by lightning. However, no fire occurred, just electrical damage. There were also three downed trees on roads, two of which impacted the roads, but League said they should be cleared fairly quickly.

These goods:

  • Hwy 20-Creekwood Drive – downed tree and power lines (traffic not affected)
  • Mt Vernon Road near Laura Drive
  • Highway 186 near Thurston Snow Road

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather advisory warning of severe storms in the region until 2:45 p.m.

…Strong thunderstorms will impact portions of northeastern Rockdale, Oconee, Barrow, east-central DeKalb, northwestern Morgan, southeastern Gwinnett, Clarke, Walton, southern Jackson, northwestern Oglethorpe, southwestern Madison and northeastern Newton Counties through 2:45 p.m. EDT…At 2:14 p.m. EDT, a line of strong thunderstorms extended from Arcade through Bethlehem to near Lakeview Estates, moving east at 20 mph.

DANGER…40 to 50 mph winds, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning strikes, and heavy rain.

IMPACTS…Expect minor damage to branches and flying light, unsecured

objects. Heavy rain may cause temporary flooding, especially in areas with poor drainage. Areas affected include… Conyers, Winder, Monroe, Covington, Jefferson, Watkinsville, Athens, Snellville, Loganville, Auburn, Dacula, Social Circle, Grayson, Statham, Oxford, Arcade, Nicholson, Walnut Grove, Winterville and Bogart.
