The driver of the motorcycle, 21-year-old Bryan Alexander Gonzalez Barreras, was taken to a local hospital where he later died, officials said.

The investigation revealed that the Honda was turning left from WWT Harris Blvd. onto I-485 when Barreras crashed into the right rear fascia of the Honda at a high rate of speed.

Police say Barreras was wearing an NCDOT-approved helmet, but not properly. Investigators believe speed contributed to Barreras’ crash, and toxicology reports are pending.

The driver of the Honda, a 39-year-old man, and two passengers were not injured.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should call Detective Mercedes at 704-432-2196, extension 5, or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
