More than 500 people arrested in Bangladesh capital for violence: police

More than 500 people, including some opposition leaders, have been arrested so far in days of clashes in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, which were triggered by protests against employment quotas, police said on Monday.

“At least 532 people have been arrested in the violence,” Faruk Hossain, spokesman for the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told AFP. “Among them are some senior BNP officials,” he added, referring to the opposition Bangladesh National Party.
