Police officer and man injured in Fort Collins police shooting near City Park

A man and a Fort Collins police officer were injured in a shooting near City Park and Grandview Cemetery Sunday afternoon, according to Fort Collins police.

Police responded to an incident in which a single vehicle rolled over near West Mountain Avenue and South Bryan Avenue around 12:41 p.m. They found the driver had exited the vehicle with a weapon, police officials said in a news release.

The driver “engaged in a gun battle with police” and ran toward the cemetery. Police followed him and “more gunfire ensued,” Fort Collins officials said Sunday.

SWAT officers in an armored vehicle approached the injured man, detained him and rendered medical aid. He was taken to a hospital, but his condition was not immediately known.

The injured officer was also taken to a hospital and is expected to recover, according to the agency.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting.
