Funeral plans underway for man killed trying to save family during Trump assassination attempt – WSB-TV Channel 2

BUTLER, Pennsylvania — Preparations are underway for the funeral of the father who was killed at a rally for former President Donald Trump over the weekend when a gunman guarding his family opened fire, wounding him as well.

Corey Comperatore was a volunteer firefighter in the Butler, Pennsylvania area where the rally took place.

Michele Newell from Channel 2 was there after the shooting and learned that about 500 fire engines could possibly take part in the procession to the Comperatore.

The funeral will be private and public, only family and friends can attend. However, the wake is public.

“He was a man who just wanted to protect, serve and love,” said 2nd Lt. Craig Cirrincione of the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department.

“I want people to know the Corey I knew. He loved his wife. His daughters were everything to him,” said John Risch, former fire chief of the Winfield Township VFD.

Preparations are now underway for Comperatore’s departure.

“It was a given for him – to get involved in the community and be there for the people,” Cirrincione said.

A statement from Cabots Church, where Comperatore’s funeral will take place, said:

“Cabot Church is doing all we can to support the Comperatore family during this difficult time. Corey was a man of deep faith who lived his life honoring Christ and serving others. Our congregation loves the Comperatore family and mourns with them this tragic loss.”

The New York Post interviewed Trump and asked him if he had thought about attending the funeral. He said yes.

We contacted Trump’s campaign team about this but received no response.
