Boone County firefighter killed in water rescue buried Saturday – News/Talk KRMS

A flood rescue early Monday morning at Bear Creek on Rangeline Street in Boone County ends tragically, with one paramedic dead and two other people injured.

According to the highway police, the two rescue workers were on their way back to shore with two other people they had rescued from a vehicle stranded in the water when the rescue boat lost power and began to drift in the strong current before it was flooded and all occupants were thrown out of the water.

Two of the three occupants suffered minor injuries and were freed on the spot.

However, the driver, 42-year-old Matthew Tobben of Sturgeon, deputy fire chief of Boone County, was found near the vessel and pronounced dead at the scene.

Toben was buried Saturday in Union, MO.
