PLANNING FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS: Today will be warmer and wetter. Heat index readings could reach the 35-degree mark by late afternoon. An isolated strong storm is possible anytime today, but the chance for storms is greater later tonight when a cluster of storms with damaging winds is possible into early Sunday morning. There is a chance that parts of our area will be spared from the storms tonight (the most likely places to see storms are areas north of Dane County), but more storms are forecast for Sunday and Monday.

EXTENDED FORECAST: Sunday into Monday will remain very warm/hot, with highs around or above 90. Heat index values will approach 100, or possibly a little above. (Much of this moist air is the result of recent wetness and crops and vegetation shedding a lot of water.) There is also a chance of daily storms on Sunday and Monday. We will likely see morning storms each day that dissipate and become hot and humid, and then storms will form each evening and overnight. Damaging winds and heavy rains are usually the main threats for severe weather in this type of weather. The combination of high heat index values and the possibility of severe weather has prompted the First Warn Weather Team to continue to highlight Saturday, Sunday and Monday as WARNING DAYS. After Monday, very calm weather is forecast.
