Sanborn man injured in grain elevator accident | News

SANBORN – A 71-year-old rural Sanborn man was seriously injured in an accident at a grain elevator on Monday, July 8.

O’Brien County Communications received a 911 call at approximately 11:10 a.m. regarding an unknown emergency at 3317 Pierce Avenue, approximately three miles southwest of Sanborn.

Rescue personnel from the Sanborn Fire Department and Sheldon Ambulance were dispatched along with officers from the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.

Sanborn Fire Department personnel were first to arrive on scene and found Bryon Douglas Storm in a grain silo on the farm.

Storm got stuck in the inner auger of the grain silo, but was able to free himself when rescue workers arrived.

Sanborn Fire Department personnel were able to shut down the conveyor system and, along with sheriff’s deputies, rescued Storm from the grain elevator and rendered aid.

Storm suffered severe injuries to both legs because he got caught in the conveyor screw of the silo container.

He was taken by Sheldon Ambulance to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center and then flown by helicopter to Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
