Store clerk shot dead during suspected robbery at Frankford Convenient Store in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A store clerk was shot dead while working his night shift in Philadelphia’s Frankford neighborhood. Police are now trying to get a description of the man responsible.

Investigators said the victim was discovered shortly after 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

The employee was shot while working at the Frankford Convenience Store at the intersection of Frankford Avenue and Pratt Street, police said.

The store is located across from the Frankford Transportation Center.

Investigators said they learned of the incident when someone told a police officer patrolling the area that a man had been shot at the supermarket.

The officer found the victim unconscious with multiple gunshot wounds on the floor in the employee area.

Officers took the man to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“We know that at least five rounds were fired from a semi-automatic weapon because we found five shell casings on the ground,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department. “The shell casings were just a few feet from where we found the victim lying on the ground in the employee area.”

Police said the cash register was open and money was lying all over the floor. They are trying to determine how the whole thing happened and how the suspect got into the employee area behind the counter.

“The cash register is open and there are several bills on the floor. There is a possibility that some kind of robbery took place here,” Small added.

Police believe the store employee was 37 years old. His name has not yet been released.

They said there were multiple cameras inside and outside the store, so they were reviewing the video footage to get a description of the shooter.
