One dead in accident on Highway 34 west of York

YORK, Nebraska (KOLN) – One person was killed in a head-on collision with a semi-trailer truck on Highway 34 near York.

The York County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that one person was killed near York Municipal Airport west of York on Tuesday.

Officers were called to the scene of the accident between 10 and 11 a.m. According to police, an SUV traveling eastbound crossed the center line of the highway and collided head-on with a tractor-trailer traveling westbound.

The driver of the SUV was killed, the driver of the semi-truck was uninjured. The department is withholding names while officials work to notify family.

Captain Josh Gillespie said more information should be available later Wednesday.

The crash remains under investigation.

The York County Sheriff’s Department thanked the York Fire Department, Nebraska State Patrol, York Police, Hitz Towing and the Nebraska Department of Transportation for their assistance in the accident cleanup.
