Harvey Weinstein is being investigated for “further violent sexual assaults,” prosecutors in New York say.

At a hearing in New York State Criminal Court in Manhattan on Tuesday, District Attorney Nicole Blumberg said they would seek new charges, adding that the other assaults allegedly committed in Manhattan were still within the statute of limitations and thus could not be charged as crimes.

The 72-year-old film producer’s landmark 2020 conviction in New York earned him a 23-year prison sentence and sparked a global #MeToo movement – but in April it was overturned by the state’s highest court.

A renegotiation is still pending.

It was decided that the original hearing were disadvantaged by “outrageous” unjustified decisions of the judgeincluding the decision to allow women to testify on allegations that were not part of the case, which violated his right to a fair trial.

Weinstein has denied having had any encounters with anyone without his consent.

Weinstein’s lawyer Arthur Aidala said on Tuesday that it was unfair of prosecutors to add more victims to the case after the verdict was overturned.

He added: “We have a hotline again: ‘1-800 Get Harvey.'”

Weinstein remained behind bars because he was also convicted of another rape in Los Angeles in 2022, for which he was sentenced to 16 years in prison. He is also Appeal against this judgment.

Only a few days after the verdict was overturned Weinstein was taken to hospitalHis lawyer described him as “at the end of his health,” but mentally still “in top shape.”

Weinstein had been suffering from heart problems, diabetes, sleep apnea and eye problems for some time and was in “constant pain,” Aidala said.

He was once considered the most powerful man in Hollywood and admitted that his past behavior had “caused a lot of pain.” However, he always maintained his innocence and stated that all sexual activity was consensual.

Hundreds of men in entertainment, media, politics and other fields have been accused of sexual misconduct.

He is currently being held in solitary confinement at New York’s Rikers Island prison.
