Man sentenced to 25 years in prison after raping and beating his victim in a Dagenham house

A Dagenham man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a savage attack that ended with his victim jumping out of a window to escape.

Oladip Oshodi, 48, was found guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court on several charges, including rape, administering a harmful substance and causing grievous bodily harm.

The court heard that on July 11, 2023, Oshodi sexually assaulted a woman he knew at his home in Mayesbrook, Dagenham.

Despite her clear refusal, he raped her twice and beat her brutally.

In a desperate attempt to free herself, the victim jumped out of a ground floor window onto the street and collapsed there. Passers-by alerted the police and brought her to safety.

Oshodi was arrested the following day by detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s East Area Public Protection Unit. He remained in custody throughout the trial and was found guilty of all charges on 10 May this year.

Following his ordeal, the victim received hospital treatment and support from specialist officials.

Detective Constable Serena McGhee said: “Oshodi is a dangerous man and it is right that he now has to serve a long prison sentence in a place where he poses no danger to women. I commend the courage of the victim and the witnesses in this case.

“Oshodi has shown no remorse throughout the investigation and trial and I am glad that he must face the consequences of his actions.”

PC Kayleigh Grafton, a specialist officer for victims of sexual offences, said: “The survivor in this case was running for her life when she jumped into the street to escape the man.

I hope the verdict encourages other women who have been victims of sexual assault to come forward. We are here to support you and our mission is to protect you and support you every step of the way.”
