Woman dies after speeding in BMW allegedly driven by son of Shiv Sena leader who hits motorbike in Mumbai

A woman was killed in a hit-and-run accident early Sunday and her husband was injured when a BMW collided with their motorcycle in the Mumbai district of Worli.

The deceased woman was identified as Kaveri Nakhwa (45), a resident of Worli Koliwada. The husband of the deceased sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment in hospital, police said.

According to police sources NDTV And Indian ExpressThe car was allegedly driven by 24-year-old Mihir Shah, son of Rajesh Shah, a senior politician of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. The report added that Mihir was said to be drunk at the time of the incident.

According to Mumbai Police, the accident occurred when the couple was returning home from fishing at Sassoon Dock.

“A BMW ran over two cyclists. The woman died in this incident and the other person was injured. The incident took place at 5:30 am this morning when the cyclist couple was passing in front of Atria Mall in Worli,” said a statement from the Mumbai Police.

Police also added that the diver fled the scene after the incident.

“After the incident, the driver fled the scene in his car. The accident occurred when the couple, hailing from the fishing community, were returning home after buying fish. The husband managed to jump off the speeding vehicle. The wife, who was injured in the accident, died during treatment,” police added.

According to media reports, the luxury car dragged the woman 100 meters while her husband managed to jump out of the vehicle.

People nearby took her to a hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead. The husband is currently being treated.

Worli police seized the car and arrested the driver, who fled the scene after the accident.

Police stressed that the luxury car belonged to the leader of a political party based in Palghar, Maharashtra.

“The luxury car belongs to the leader of a political party based in Palghar and his son was sitting in the car with the driver,” police said.

The incident occurred less than two months after a hit-and-run case in Pune involving a minor, which led to the death of a young couple.
