Crazy Ritz bounces back at Buffalo Raceway

Hamburg, NY — After a heartbreaking neck loss last week, Crazy Ritz recovered well from the disappointment to claim a one-length victory over Power And Grace in the $14,000 Open Trot at Buffalo Raceway on Saturday night (July 6).

Crazy Ritz ($3.80) was able to turn the tables on Power And Grace this time around by recording a season-best time of 1:57.1 on the fast track.

Playing back and forth with R Royal Port (Jim Morrill Jr.), Crazy Ritz posted splits of :29.2, :59.1 and 1:28.2. Coming back home, things got very interesting.

Crazy Ritz turned first towards the finish line with R Royal Port pulling the pocket. Looking like the major danger, R Royal Port veered badly, ending up in the path of eighth, thus losing all hope. Meanwhile, Crazy Ritz was free as Power And Grace (Drew Monti) was able to close in to secure second place with Arrakis (Joseph Chindano Jr.) finishing third.

Owned by James Palladino and trained by Jim McNeight, Crazy Ritz (Crazy Wow-Bobblesnritz) has now won three times in 12 starts in 2024. The victory brought his seasonal earnings to $39,520 and $128,527 lifetime.

In the $12,200 Open II Pace, Handsoffmytitos looked like the sure winner midway down the stretch, but someone forgot to warn Scribblers ($5.30). With a vicious, relentless rally, Scribblers (Kyle Swift) surprised Handsoffmytitos (Jim Morrill Jr.) in the shadow of the finish line to snatch the win at mid-length in 1:53.4. Blazing Light (Kevin Cummings) took the winner’s place.

Owned by Barry Charles and trained by Christopher Petrelli, the 4-year-old Scribblers (Sportswriter-Gypsy Fantasy) has produced $50,496 this year and $97,721 in his career.

After winning last week’s Grade A trot by half a length in 1:57.4, Good Boy ($6.70) stepped up to the $12,200 Open II level and it proved to be déjà vu for him.

In an instant replay from seven days ago, Good Boy launched from the second post and charged down the lane to win in a season-best time of 1:57.3. Biscoe (James McNeight Jr.) finished three-quarters of a length behind Curry Hanover (David McNeight III) for third.

Owned by Mary Warriner and trained by Ryan Swift, this is the third win of the campaign for the 5-year-old colt Good Boy (Lou’s Legacy-Gia’s Speedster). The victory boosted his 2024 earnings to $31,314 and career earnings to $156,137.

Racing resumes Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. with 13 races on the card. There will be two divisions of the $52,500 New York Sire Stakes for 2-year-old colts and geldings as well as three races in the Excelsior Series.
