Detectives investigate huge food robbery; photos of suspect released

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives with the Montgomery County Police Department – ​​Major Crimes Division are investigating a robbery that occurred at the Giant Food grocery store in the 7100 block of Arlington Road in Bethesda on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. Detectives have released surveillance photos of the male suspect and are asking the public for help in identifying him.

At around 11:30 a.m., officers from the 2nd District arrived at the scene on a report of a robbery.

The investigation revealed that the suspect entered the store and attempted to return stolen merchandise in order to recover cash. When his attempt was unsuccessful, the suspect punched an employee in the face, snatched an undisclosed amount of money from another employee, and left the scene.

Detectives reviewed surveillance camera footage in the store and received a description of the suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male, between the ages of 30 and 40, approximately 5’10” tall, 200 pounds, bearded, of large build, wearing a black baseball cap, white t-shirt, blue jean shorts, black sneakers, and carrying a black backpack.
