Police arrest co-conspirators in drug trafficking in Asheville

ASHEVILLE, NC (WSPA) – Asheville Police have arrested two co-conspirators for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking near an east Asheville hotel.

During an investigation near a hotel in the 140 block of Tunnel Road, detectives identified and charged 53-year-old Brandi Yanette Haynes and 33-year-old Christopher Quamanie Hammett with drug trafficking.


Police said when they arrested Haynes and Hammett on Monday afternoon, Haynes had a concealed weapon and a “commercial quantity of drugs” on him. Hammett was also reportedly in possession of drugs.

During the arrests, detectives seized a KelTec pistol, 148.34 grams of methamphetamine, 13 grams of crack cocaine and 2.5 grams of fentanyl.

Hayne and Hammett were charged with the following:

Brandi Yanette Haynes

  • Serious trafficking in methamphetamine through possession
  • Serious possession with intent to sell or supply, Annex II
  • Serious possession with intent to sell or supply, Annex VI
  • Crimes have Appendix II
  • Crimes keep an apartment for controlled substances
  • carry a concealed weapon
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Haynes was remanded to the Buncombe County Detention Center without bail.

Christopher Quamanie Hammett

  • Possession with intent to sell or supply Annex II x2
  • Crimes have Appendix II
  • resist, delay or hinder

Hammett was taken to the Buncombe County Detention Center on $50,000 bail.
