No suspect at large after three found dead at similar crime scenes near I-10

Three people were found shot dead near the Pilot Travel Center in North Palm Springs on Sunday afternoon, police said.

At around 1:15 p.m., officers received a 911 call about a gunshot victim near North Indian Canyon Drive and Garnet Avenue, Palm Springs police said in a news release. Police found two men dead in a white Toyota sedan and a third man who apparently died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds “just south of Interstate 10, near the Indian Canyon Drive overpass.”

Officials did not believe there were any suspects left and said they had a connection between the two crime scenes. Police are not releasing the names of the victims until the Riverside County Coroner’s Office notifies next of kin.

Seven vehicles, including Palm Springs Police, Riverside County Coroner’s Office, Riverside County Forensics and District Attorney’s Office investigators, are on scene.

The Wendy’s Restaurant and Pilot Travel Center remain open while officials continue to speak with people on the ground.

Lt. Mike Villegas of the Palm Springs Police Department said southbound Indian Canyon Drive south of Interstate 10 will remain closed during the investigation. The eastbound Interstate 10 exit ramp to Indian Canyon Drive will also be closed.
