Thunderstorms in the evening, then a break from extreme heat on Thursday

TONIGHT & OVERNIGHT:

A First Alert Weather Day is in effect until 9 p.m. tonight. Showers and thunderstorms will continue to move northeast across the Mid-State, bringing occasional heavy downpours and gusty winds, as well as frequent lightning. Some wind gusts could be strong enough to knock down tree limbs, trees, and/or power lines.

Some heavy thunderstorms are possible until late in the evening. On Friday the heat will be very high again.

By 9 p.m. the acute threat is over.

There will be isolated showers and thunderstorms throughout the night.

THURSDAY:

Thursday is the best day in the forecast. After a few morning showers in some areas, expect a slight drop in humidity and highs in the 90s.

FIRST WEATHER WARNING DAYS – FRIDAY AND THIS WEEKEND:

Friday will be significantly hotter than Thursday, with maximum temperatures around 35 degrees and a heat index below 38 degrees.

Both Saturday and Sunday will be very hot and humid.

Saturday could be the hottest day on record, with maximum temperatures expected to range between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius and the heat index reaching dangerous levels.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected Saturday night and Sunday as a front moves through the area. Highs on Sunday will be just above 35 degrees with muggy temperatures. The heat index will be around 38 degrees.

NEXT WEEK:

Monday will be a little cooler and less humid than the weekend.

From Tuesday to Thursday, the heat will be more intense and the humidity higher. Highs of between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius are expected on each of these days. There will be a First Alert Weather Day on each of these days.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible on Wednesday and Thursday.
