Police warn of gold bullion scam in Brentwood

The scam involves convincing victims to exchange their cash for gold bars.

BRENTWOOD, CALIFORNIA — Some Brentwood residents have been affected by a gold bullion scam, police said Friday.

According to police, the criminals pose as U.S. government officials or customer service representatives from a financial or technology company.

The scammers contact victims and claim that their bank accounts have been hacked. The victim is then persuaded to convert their assets into gold bars. Once the victim confirms that they have purchased the gold bars, the scammers send someone to the victim to pick up the bars.

“If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t right,” Brentwood police said on Facebook.

Residents are asked to call the police first before giving out personal information to anyone who contacts them about this matter or before sending anyone money in such situations.
