Elmira woman arrested for attempted assault and resisting arrest

ELMIRA HEIGHTS, NY (WETM) – An Elmira woman was arrested following an incident at a home in Elmira Heights.

According to Elmira Heights police, 25-year-old Sophia Batista was arrested on Monday, June 17, on charges of attempted second-degree assault, second-degree obstruction of public administration and resisting arrest.

Batista was arrested after police said they were called to a home on Elmwood Avenue because of a disturbance. During an altercation at the home, Batista allegedly punched another woman in a pool several times and then held her underwater.

She was then read the charges against Batista in Elmira Heights Court and released without bail.
