Amul demands return of ice cream tub from Noida customer for investigation after millipede complaint

On June 17, Amul asked a customer in Noida to return the ice cream bowl in which she allegedly found a millipede for further investigation, assuring that the company offers the highest quality dairy products both in India and in the global market.

A woman in Noida has claimed she found a millipede in a sundae she ordered through an ice cream delivery app, said food safety officials, who have launched an investigation into the case.

In a post on X on June 15, the woman, who identified herself as Deepa Devi, shared a picture showing the insect in the ice cream sundae.

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets milk products under the Amul brand, regretted the inconvenience caused to the customer in Noida.

The Noida Food Safety Authority has launched an investigation into the matter.

In a statement, Amul said the company responded promptly to the complaint on social media.

“We deeply regret any inconvenience this incident has caused her,” the statement said.

Amul said its team was constantly trying to contact the customer and was allowed to meet after 9:30 pm on the same day (June 15).

“During our meeting with the customer, we asked him to provide us with the ice cream sundae in question for inspection, but unfortunately the customer refused to hand it over.

“Until the complaint package is retrieved from the customer, it will be difficult for us to investigate the matter and therefore take a concrete position on the issue, which also involves the integrity of the package and the supply chain,” Amul said.

During the discussion, the client was informed about Amul’s state-of-the-art ISO certified facilities and was convinced that these are automated and undergo numerous stringent quality checks before any product is offered for sale to the valued customers.

Amul also invited the customer to visit its factory to ensure compliance with quality assurance procedures.

Amul assured customers of the excellent quality of its Amul ice cream.

Amul stressed that it is one of India’s most trusted brands and is owned by 3.6 million farmers. The company distributes 22 billion packs of Amul products annually in over 50 countries and delivers them in the highest quality and food safety standards from over 100 dairies across India.

“We want to assure you that we take utmost care to ensure that our products are safe, healthy and nutritious so that we can offer them to our customers on a daily basis,” Amul said.

The cooperative asked the customer to return the ice container for a thorough inspection.

“Once we receive the complaint package from the customer, we will investigate the matter from all angles and communicate the results to our customers,” Amul said.
