Man arrested after Oakland police car rammed during chase as part of investigation into robbery in San Leandro with wife and children in car

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) – Oakland police say they are investigating an attack on an officer with a deadly weapon.

A man wanted for armed robbery had a wife and three children in the car when he tried to escape from officers by crashing into their patrol car, Oakland police said.

The incident occurred just before 10:30 a.m. Friday in the area of ​​Foster Avenue and Bernhardt Drive. OPD officers said they spotted a vehicle wanted in connection with an armed robbery in San Leandro.

According to OPD, when officers attempted to make contact and detain the vehicle, the driver attempted to get away by ramming the officers’ fully marked patrol vehicle. OPD officers were able to arrest two adults and three juveniles who were in the vehicle.

There are no reports of physical injuries at this time.

Police believe the driver stole $400 from a tobacco store in San Leandro on Tuesday.

The case will now be turned over to the San Leandro Police Department for further investigation.
