ISP: Parents arrested in Hanover after toddler suffered ‘suspicious’ injuries

HANOVER, Indiana – Police have arrested two parents after their young daughter ended up in the hospital with “suspicious injuries.”

According to Indiana State Police, the investigation began on May 15 when investigators rushed to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, where a five-month-old baby from Jefferson County was being treated for injuries.

Initial investigations revealed that the child was in the care of his parents, 24-year-old Makayla B. Turner and 28-year-old Skyler Hoffman-Jenkins, at the time of his injury.

The state police said the injuries were of a “suspicious” nature, but did not provide any specific details.

ISP referred the investigation to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, who charged each parent with six counts: two counts of assault, two counts of neglect of a dependent causing bodily injury, and two counts of domestic violence against a person under the age of 14.

Turner and Hoffman-Jenkins were arrested without incident on Tuesday and taken to the Jefferson County Jail. Their first hearing is scheduled for June 24, according to court records.

The Indiana Department of Child Services and Norton Children’s Hospital assisted with the investigation, ISP said.
