Darlington man charged with attempted murder following aggressive driving

DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) – A Darlington County man is facing serious charges after a road rage incident involving his uncle escalated when he allegedly pulled out a gun.

Documents obtained by WMBF News show that on June 7, Justin Maurice Hunter was driving behind his uncle on South Warley Street and allegedly struck his uncle’s car. Statements collected from the uncle state that Hunter then drove past his uncle while giving him the middle finger. His uncle then drove past Hunter and gave him the middle finger as well.

Hunter then drove into his uncle a second time, causing the uncle’s car to collide with a city fire hydrant, knocking it over. When police arrived at the scene, they found the fire hydrant wedged under the car.

After the second accident, Hunter allegedly began to insult and threaten his uncle and pulled out a gun. Then he got back in his car and sped away.

The victim, Hunter’s uncle, was taken to the hospital by his wife for back injuries he said he sustained in the accidents.

The next day, police were able to find Hunter’s car in the yard of a house on 2nd Avenue. On June 9, they arrested Hunter.

He is accused of attempted murder and displaying a firearm.

His bail was set at $75,000 and he remains in custody at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center.
