Woman found naked and screaming on a suburban Canberra street was allegedly held captive by a man for days

At around 7pm on Monday, police were conducting routine patrol on Fairweather Circuit in Lyneman when they noticed a naked woman running down the road screaming.

Officers immediately took the woman to their car, where she told them that she had been held captive by a man in a nearby house for several days.

During her imprisonment, she told police that she had been raped several times.

Police confirmed that the woman had suffered multiple injuries.

Police located the house where they said the woman had been held and arrested a 44-year-old man from Lyneham.

He is accused of four crimes: deprivation of liberty, sexual intercourse without consent, assault and failure to appear in court.

Police are continuing to investigate the matter and expect further charges to be filed.
