LA police crack down on pro-Palestinian protesters at UCLA

On Monday evening, police moved in on a group of pro-Palestinian protesters at the University of California, Los Angeles as the demonstrators again attempted to set up camp.

According to reports from the UCLA Daily Bruin, tents and barricades were erected in Dickson Plaza shortly after 3 p.m.

“Earlier that day, protesters marched to Murphy Hall carrying fake bloody mummies and body parts while reciting the names of Palestinians killed in the war between Israel and Hamas and chanting, ‘We will honor all our martyrs,'” the student magazine reported.

The day’s protests marked the third pro-Palestinian camp.

Authorities cleared the first encampment on May 2 following a week-long occupation of Dickson Plaza, just over a day after violence broke out between protesters and counter-protesters.

On May 23, police in riot gear moved into a second camp on campus and quickly cleared it after declaring the demonstration an “unlawful assembly.”

At both demonstrations, protesters demanded that UCLA divest from its holdings in Israel to protest the Jewish state’s bloody military offensive in the Gaza Strip following the Hamas attack on Israeli civilians on October 7, 2023.

Dozens of people were arrested at both demonstrations.

Around 7:30 p.m. this evening, police in riot gear and armed with non-lethal weapons arrived and cordoned off the yard behind Dodd Hall, the Daily Bruin posted on X (formerly Twitter).

In addition, campus police and California Highway Patrol officers assisted LA police in combating the protesters.

According to reports, a dispersal order was issued around 6 p.m., resulting in more than a dozen arrests by 9 p.m.
