“Cyber incident” paralyzes Cleveland City Hall

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland City Hall will be closed Monday as the city investigates a “cyber incident” affecting some of the city’s computer systems.

“All internal systems and software platforms will be shut down until further notice,” the city said in a press release Sunday evening. “City Hall and Erieview will be closed Monday … except for essential personnel and normal business transactions will not be conducted with the public.”

The press release states that the nature and extent of the cyber incident are still unknown, “but we are taking this incident seriously.” The affected computer systems were shut down during the investigation.

City and emergency services, including the Department of Public Safety (911, police, fire and EMS), the Department of Port Control (Cleveland Hopkins and Burke Lakefront airports) and the Department of Public Utilities (water, water conservation and Cleveland Public Power) are not affected, the release said. All emergency calls to 311 will be handled by the after-hours telephone services during the day.

“We take cyber threats extremely seriously and are working quickly to resolve the situation as quickly as possible,” the press release states.
