Basketball coach accused of sexual assault

A basketball coach has been charged with sexually abusing a teenage girl while she was a student in the Australian Capital Territory.

Officers from the Australian Capital Territory Police Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team arrested the 39-year-old woman for allegedly sexually abusing the then 15-year-old girl.

Police allege that the woman abused the girl in 2009 when she was her trainer.

The woman was arrested when police searched her apartment on Thursday.

She is accused of four counts of sexual intercourse with a minor under the age of 16, strangling another person and intentional possession of an offensive weapon.

The woman appeared before the Australian Capital Territory Magistrates Court on Friday.
