9 dogs rescued after kitten fires near home in Houston

Nine dogs were rescued from horrific conditions at a Houston home after authorities were alerted to a kitten’s fire last night.

The Houston SPCA and Harris County Constable Precinct 1 investigated the property after surveillance video captured a kitten running down a nearby street while engulfed in flames. During the search, authorities seized nine dogs, including seven puppies.

Authorities said the dogs were kept in filthy kennels stored inside a shed. They were also malnourished and had no access to food or water. A civil seizure was ordered, allowing the abused dogs to be immediately removed from the residence.

The kitten was taken care of by the SPCA. This morning she was humanely euthanized after suffering extreme burns and internal injuries.

A custody hearing is scheduled for next week and the investigation into the situation is ongoing.
