Lakeville teenager killed in traffic accident honored with Hero Walk

Dozens of friends and family gathered Wednesday to mourn the death of a teenager who was hit two days ago while crossing a busy street in Lakeville on a scooter.

It is a farewell that benefits a hero.

14-year-old Maxwell Wilson embarks on his final journey into the operating room to fulfill his final wish and save the lives of others through organ donation.

Friends and family dressed in red commemorated Max’s gift of life with a ceremonial flag-raising outside Hennepin County Medical Center.

In a GoFundMe campaign, Max’s family explains that he suffered severe brain injuries in a car accident two days ago and will not make it.

According to Lakeville Police, Max was riding a scooter near the intersection of 179th Street and Granby Lane when he was struck by a motorist.

His relatives say Max was full of life and brightened up every room he entered.

Max’s friends told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that he brought joy to everyone he knew.

“He’s a very nice person. He’s a joker, very athletic and just really nice overall. He’s really great to be around,” said Colton Johnson, a friend. “He saves other lives, which is great.”

He loved sports and adventure and believed that greatness leaves a mark – a reminder that life should not be taken for granted, Max’s friends and family say.

“It’s obviously really hard to see all the people here who have been worried about him and knowing what his family is going through,” said Max’s friend Lincoln Swanson.

Swanson says he will remember how kind and willing Max was to play catch and hang out with him outside of school.
