The passenger train was operated by the railway company RegioJet, said Martin Netolicky, governor of the Pardubice region, on Facebook.

“Several people were killed and dozens injured in a head-on collision between a RegioJet train and a freight train,” he said.

Footage of the accident posted on news website idnes.cz showed at least one train carriage standing next to the track, while police showed a number of emergency vehicles and a helicopter on their social media account X.
