Tornado in Sanford, Texas? Fritch and Amarillo on alert

A gigantic tornado touched down in Sanford, Texas, on Sunday evening, confirmed meteorologists from the National Weather Service (NWS). In its detailed statement, the weather agency warned residents of Fritch and Amarillo to avoid crowds in public areas and to stay in their homes. This came after a tornado warning was in effect in southwestern Hutchinson and Eastern Moore counties. The destructive tornado moved through the region amid severe weather accompanied by two-inch hail.

The NWS office in Amarillo, Texas, issued a warning for Hutchinson and Moore remained active until 7:45 p.m. (CDT). In addition, local media reported that these warnings could be extended. At around 7:15 p.m. local time, a confirmed tornado was spotted near Sanford. The weather agency said in its statement that the twister was located 11 miles west of Borger and was moving southeast at a speed of 10 mph.

Sanford residents reported sightings of the tornado and were later warned to stay under cover. Weather warnings for the area described the situation as: “Destroying tornado and two-inch hail.”
