Man arrested for rape and murder of 7-year-old niece in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

Mayurbhanj: Kuliana police in Mayurbhanj district of the Indian state of Odisha have arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting and killing his seven-year-old niece. The accused was arrested and identified as Ramesh Chandra Dehuri.

According to reports, the minor was alone when the accused visited her at home on Saturday morning. Her family members had gone to the polling booth to exercise their right to vote. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused lured her to a secluded place and raped her. He later strangled her because he feared that the girl might tell her parents about the incident.

When the girl’s family returned home in the afternoon, they could not find her anywhere and started searching for her frantically. Some time later, they discovered the girl’s naked body in a remote place. When they asked how the little girl got there, the villagers told them that they had seen Dehuri taking her to the remote place.

Soon, the villagers caught Dehuri and beat him up brutally. Later, they handed him over to Kuliana police. Kuliana police station, in turn, registered a case under Section 376(AB), 302 IPC and POCSO Act and investigated the brutal incident.
